Biography

Award winning self-taught artist, Seonaid Clarke, returned to her beloved island in 2013 and now lives and works in Stornoway, the capital township of the Outer Hebrides.

After a successful career in the Aviation Industry, Seonaid was finally able to follow her dreams of…

…pursuing art in 2006. Since then she has steadily gained increasing recognition for her realistic and sensitive portraiture as well as forging a name for herself as an up-and-coming contemporary artist.

The Outer Hebrides boasts some of the most dramatic and magnificent scenery in Scotland and it is from these beautiful windswept surroundings that Seonaid finds inspiration for her work. Like the ever-changing light and weather,  Seonaid’s creations are constantly evolving and it was this quest for exploration and discovery that brought about her unique Harris Tweed artwork.   These atmospheric originals were first show-cased at the inaugural Aberdeen Art Fair in 2011.

Each ‘Tweedy’ as they are affectionately called, is created using authentic Harris Tweed and labelled accordingly.   The artwork is built up in layers and Seonaid often incorporates tweed remnants as well as copper/gold and silver leafing to add to the 3-D quality of each piece.
At present Seonaid is the only known artist to use the ‘Clo’ (Gaelic for Tweed) in this particular way, which has seen the demand for her work steadily increase.

As well as exhibiting her work in galleries,  Seonaid predominantly works to commission with clients in the UK/Europe as well as further afield in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
