Hazel Cashmore was born in Coventry, but moved to Caithness 1978. She has painted and exhibited since 1983. Of her work, she says, "I paint the far north as an emotional response to all around me. Huge skies, panoramic vistas, dark hills, big seas and the ever changing northern light. In my work I try to convey a sense of place whilst at the same time using land, sky and sea to give access to the personal and universal. Actual places combined with my own inner landscapes that maps my own psyche." She works primarily in acrylic oil and also in mixed media.
